Even the most honorable knights can be wicked. 

Mariana is a notorious thief. After stealing a valuable artifact from the Lord of Fenrir, she now serves a life sentence in the Order of the Valiant, a band of knights tasked to protect the realm from gruesome monsters. She would do anything to gain her freedom—including serving a ruthless murderer in his plot to overthrow the Lord. 

Faren is one of the Lord’s Mighty Knights; honorable and loyal, there is nothing he holds in higher regard than the realm. When he’s tasked to investigate the Valiant and their failure to protect a town overrun by monsters, he’s confident the mission will result in a promotion—until he learns that Mariana has been assigned as his guide.

Mariana is an affront to Faren’s morals; Faren’s narrow view of the realm is an insult to Mariana’s grim duty. But as they venture through monster-infested ruins, rescue innocent homesteaders, and travel to Waldron-on-Wend in search of answers, they form a reluctant alliance that gradually morphs into a foolhardy attraction. 

As they uncover sordid secrets and corrupt politics, Mariana and Faren soon find themselves at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy. Bound by Oath to serve opposite sides in the growing conflict, Faren and Mariana will have to choose between their desires, their duties, and the fate of the entire realm.
